SEMARANG – Students from the Business Administration Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), have once again achieved national-level distinction. Collaborating with students from the Physics Study Program, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), the team successfully secured funding for the 2026 Student Creativity Program for Constructive Video Ideas (PKM-VGK), organized by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa). This funding was attained through their video proposal entitled “Participatory Sensing-Based Early Warning and Emergency Response System for Building Resilient Coastal Communities in the Face of Tidal Flooding Crises.”
Within this team, the Business Administration students served as the principal proponents alongside interdisciplinary partners to develop HARMONI (Humanitarian Alert & Response Management via Open Networks Integrated)—a community-participatory early warning and emergency response system concept designed to enhance coastal resilience against tidal flooding.
The team is led by Anak Agung Bagus Made Aryasakti Pradaswara, with members Alfonsus Derryl Chrisandy Putra, Faith Ashira Amadhea Alexandra Nugraha, and Nasywa Ammar Naya. Three of the four team members hail from the Business Administration Study Program at FISIP Undip, while one is from the Physics Study Program at FSM Undip. The entire proposal development process was mentored by Rendy Ega Pradhana, M.AB., a lecturer in the Business Administration Study Program at FISIP Undip.
The video concept offers a novel approach to tidal flooding mitigation through the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, geofencing, and participatory sensing. The proposed framework positions communities as integral stakeholders in the mitigation system, involving them in real-time field condition reporting. This data is subsequently synthesized with technological inputs to produce actionable information that supports faster and more precise decision-making.
The proposal was developed based on field observations conducted in Tanjung Mas Village, North Semarang District—one of the areas severely affected by tidal flooding. The team also conducted hearings and interviews with the Semarang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Semarang City Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), the Semarang City Communication and Informatics Department (Diskominfo), and the Tanjung Mas Village Government. These activities were undertaken to ensure that the solutions presented in the video were rooted in actual conditions and aligned with the needs of both the community and local government.
“Through this video idea, we aim to demonstrate that addressing tidal flooding requires a synergy between technology, government, and the community. We hope HARMONI can serve as an inspiration for the creation of more participatory and sustainable disaster mitigation innovations,” said Anak Agung Bagus Made Aryasakti Pradaswara, the Team Leader.
As the primary output of the PKM-VGK program, HARMONI will be presented in video format. Through this work, the team aspires to raise public awareness of the critical importance of cross-sector collaboration in building coastal resilience against the threat of tidal flooding.
