UNDIP Global Classroom MBA Discusses Strategies for Overcoming Resistance to Change in Organizations

Semarang – The Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro, once again held the UNDIP Global Classroom event with the theme “Overcoming Resistance to Change and Process Approach Organization” on Tuesday (12/5/2026). This activity is part of the Corporate and Business Strategy course and was conducted virtually via Zoom Meeting.

The event featured Jennifer Hinlo, Ph.D., from the University of Southeastern Philippines as the keynote speaker, and Robetmi Jumpakita Pinem, S.AB., MBA, Ph.D., from Universitas Diponegoro as the discussant. The webinar discussed the challenges of organizational change as well as strategies for building more adaptive and sustainable organizational processes amidst constantly evolving business dynamics.

In her presentation, Jennifer Hinlo explained that resistance to change is one of the biggest challenges in organizational transformation. Change often triggers fear, uncertainty, a loss of control, and concerns over job security and position. These factors can lead to either active or passive resistance from individuals within the organization.

The material also highlighted that failures in organizational transformation are not always caused by technical aspects, but are heavily influenced by the human factor. Jennifer explained that a lack of communication, low trust in leadership, and minimal employee engagement are the main reasons why organizational change is difficult to implement effectively. Therefore, any approach to change must take into account the psychological, social, and cultural aspects of the organization’s work environment.

One of the essential concepts discussed in this webinar was the ADKAR model, which consists of Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, and Reinforcement. This model is utilized as an approach to help individuals adapt to change progressively by increasing understanding, motivation, ability, and the reinforcement of new behaviors within the organization.

In addition to discussing resistance to change, the webinar also raised the concept of a process-oriented organization. This organizational approach focuses on coordinating work processes, improving workflows, and driving continuous organizational efficiency. This approach is considered vital to helping organizations improve operational effectiveness while strengthening their ability to adapt to a changing business environment.

Through this event, MBA students gained deep insights into the importance of leadership, communication, and organizational process management in facing change. This understanding is considered highly relevant for future business leaders to enable them to build resilient, adaptive organizations that can thrive amidst ever-evolving global challenges.

The organization of the UNDIP Global Classroom demonstrates the commitment of the MBA Program at FISIP Universitas Diponegoro to broadening students’ international perspectives and strengthening graduates’ readiness to navigate the dynamics of the modern business world.
