Semarang, Central Java – The SDGs Center of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) will hold the international Summer Course 2026 program with the theme “Community-Based Waste Upcycling for New Resources” from May 5–21, 2026. This activity is part of UNDIP’s World Class University (WCU) program, conducted in a hybrid format through online sessions and offline activities in Semarang and Klaten, Central Java.
This program is a response to the increasing global challenges related to waste volume, natural resource limitations, and the impacts of climate change. Through a community-based approach, participants are invited to understand how waste can be processed into new resources that have economic value and sustainable environmental benefits.
The summer course integrates learning on the circular economy, integrated waste management systems, waste-to-energy technology, and community empowerment in waste management. Participants will also gain hands-on experience through field visits to the UNDIP TPST (Integrated Waste Management Site) and Kemudo Village in Klaten to observe community-based waste management practices and local BUMDes (Village-Owned Enterprises) innovations.
In addition to academic sessions and discussions, the program also features cultural immersion activities, group project presentations, and cross-cultural interaction among international participants from various academic backgrounds.
This activity also supports the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of responsible consumption and production, affordable and clean energy, climate action, and partnerships for achieving sustainable development goals.
Through this program, UNDIP hopes to strengthen international collaboration while encouraging the emergence of innovation and sustainable solutions in community-based waste management.
