Semarang – The Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program at FISIP, Diponegoro University, once again held the UNDIP Global Classroom activity with the theme “Restructuring the Organization” on Thursday, May 21, 2026. This activity was part of the Business and Corporate Strategy course and was conducted online via Zoom Meeting.
The event featured Wisuwat Wannamakok, Ph.D. from Chiang Mai University, Thailand as the main speaker, and Robetmi Jumpakita Pinem, Ph.D. from Diponegoro University as the discussant. The webinar discussed the importance of organizational restructuring and business strategy management in facing the increasingly competitive and dynamic global business environment.
In his presentation, Wisuwat Wannamakok explained that strategic management is not merely long-term planning but an ongoing process encompassing environmental analysis, strategy formulation, implementation, as well as evaluation and organizational control. Organizations need to understand their current business position, the goals they wish to achieve, and the strategic steps they must take to survive amidst market changes and competitive pressures.
The material also covered three main strategies in business competition: cost leadership, differentiation, and focus strategy. The cost leadership strategy focuses on cost efficiency to offer lower prices compared to competitors. Meanwhile, differentiation emphasizes creating unique value and a distinct customer experience. The focus strategy is directed at a more specific and targeted market segment.
A key discussion point in the webinar was the importance of differentiation strategy as a more sustainable business defense compared to price wars. Through case studies in the retail and coffee shop industries, it was explained that aggressive price competition can actually reduce a company’s profitability, especially when raw material costs rise. Conversely, companies with strong brand identity, unique customer experiences, and emotional connections with consumers are considered more capable of maintaining long-term customer loyalty.
Additionally, the webinar highlighted the importance of digital technology, data analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) in supporting modern organizational restructuring. The utilization of omnichannel systems, personalized marketing, and data-driven supply chain management is considered capable of increasing operational efficiency while strengthening a company’s competitiveness in the digital era.
During the discussion session, students were also invited to understand how organizations need to build resilience through risk management, supplier diversification, and strengthening organizational structures before facing a crisis. These approaches are considered essential for companies not only to survive but also to thrive amidst global economic uncertainty.
Through this activity, MBA students gained insights into the importance of strategic management and organizational restructuring in facing international business dynamics. This understanding is expected to help students become adaptive, innovative business leaders capable of making effective strategic decisions in the future.
The organization of this UNDIP Global Classroom reflects the commitment of the MBA Program at FISIP, Diponegoro University, to broaden students’ global perspectives and enhance graduate readiness in facing the challenges of the modern business world.
